The Soquel Meditation Group was started in 2012, with Amanda, Jay, Caroline and several others. While the core group has been relatively small, many have come to our sittings, dialogues and all day meditation events over the years, finding us from our MeetUp.com web page. While we have a basic democratic process and no particular authority vested in the roles we play as guides and facilitators; Jay tends to "lead" or facilitate dialogues and give talks at events, alternating with Amanda and Caroline who also give talks and are interested in meeting with participants. We each do what we can within the group, and authority, if any, comes from presence & clarity expressing in each moment.
The group survives on passion and a heartfelt need for likeminded support, interaction and dialogue… while founded on inquiry and silent introspection/listening we call "meditation", we encourage people to dive in and look for themselves. We find this way of working and listening together very effective and sometimes challenging. While keeping a regular dialogue group going (Monday evenings 7.15 - 8:45pm) has had it's share of ups and downs, the four to eight (or more) that regularly gather for sitting and dialogue on Monday nights, find it a mutually enriching anchor for our practice & lives. Some of our Influences: Jay's Teacher for 34 years- Toni Packer (and her Teacher; Phililp Kapleau before that), Zen Buddhism, Taoism, Advita J. Krishnamurti, David Bohm, Nisargadatta, Adyashanti, Pema Chodren, Ekhart Tolle, Jaya Ashmore and Open Dharma, Ramana Maharshi, Papaji, etc.
